Creating S.M.A.R.T. Goals

S=Specific  M=Measurable  A=Attainable  R=Realistic  T=Timely

What is a Smart Goal?

A SMART Goal is a goal that is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time based in other words, a goal that is very clear and easily understood.

S = Specific

Goals should be straightforward and emphasize what you want to happen.  This helps you to focus your efforts and clearly define what you are going to do
. Specific is the What, Why and How of the SMART model.

M = Measurable
Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress towards the attainment your goals. When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement.

A = Attainable
Although you may start with the best of intentions often goals which are too far out of reach don't get accomplished. Set goals to stretch you slightly so your feel you can do it. Your goals should challenge you to do your best, but also be achievable.

R = Realistic
This is not a synonym for easy. Realistic means "do-able." Be sure to set goals you can attain with some effort. Set your bar high enough for a satisfying achievement.

T = Timely
Create a time-frame for your goals by stating when will you accomplish them by. If you don't set a time, the commitment is too vague. Your time must be measurable, attainable and realistic.
